Maria Isabel Pires, natural de Vila Boim e radicada em Estremoz há mais de 20 anos, aprendeu com os velhos artesãos a arte de modelar os bonecos.
Hoje, o seu trabalho é um misto de tradição (a utilização de goma laca em vez de vernizes industriais) e de modernidade autodidacta (a mistura das têmperas e o modo como as aplica nas peças). O seu talento e a beleza das peças permitem que os seus trabalhos se encontrem espalhados por vários países, em colecções particulares e museus, entre os quais se destacam o Museu Municipal de Estremoz e o Museu da Presidência da República.

Maria Isabel Pires, born in Vila Boim and rooted in Estremoz for more than 20 years, learned with the old craftsmen the art of clay modeling these dolls. Today, her work is a mix of tradition (she uses shellac instead of industrial varnish) and self-taught modernity (the mixture of tempera and the way she applies them to the pieces). Her talent and the beauty of her pieces allow that her works are scattered through various countries, private collections and museums, among which the Municipal Museum of Estremoz and the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic.
