Este é o primeiro livro, disponível para o grande público, sobre as borboletas de Portugal (Continente, Açores e Madeira).
A equipa que o preparou teve a preocupação de fornecer um máximo de informação, numa linguagem acessível, de modo a servir uma gama alargada de leitores, desde o curioso da Natureza ao especialista.
É um trabalho colectivo, compilado por Ernestino Maravalhas, colaborador do CIBIO (Universidade do Porto), em que participaram investigadores portugueses e estrangeiros, entre outros, o Prof. João Honrado (Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto), o Prof. Miguel Araújo (Universidade de Évora), a Dra. Maria Otília Miralto (Universidade de Évora), o Prof. Marc Meyer (Museu de História Natural do Luxemburgo), Dr. Michael Samways (Universidade de Londres) e o Dr. Thomas Schmitt (Universidade de Trier).

Portuguese Butterflies is the first book ever published on the butterflies of Portugal.
A team of researchers prepared the book with the aim of providing the maximum information possible, in a non-technical style, so as to allow every Nature lovers to understan the questions of survival of this group of insects.
Photographs and distribuition maps of all native especies of butterflies from continental Portugal, Madeira and Azores are included, as well as habitat pictures and charts with many important data.
Albeit the use of Portuguese as the main language, English summaries are included to all chapters and picture captions are also translated to English, in order to make the book more understandable to non-Portuguese readers
